Why Africa, why Uganda?
Our story began back in 2007 when I met Venaah in the Eastern DRC, across the border with Uganda, while working as a volunteer with the Bambute pigmy tribe. Most of the time there was spent in the primeval tropical rainforests that haven’t changed much in the last thousands of years. We’ve had the opportunity to experience firsthand the slow passage of time while listening to hundreds of birds, watching colobus monkeys fooling around or during some of the most amazing primate encounters.
Every time we felt this is something worth sharing with others and having experienced the buzz of the big parks in East and southern Africa, we realized that we are able to offer something more: a raw and authentic taste of Africa.
Why Africa, why Uganda?
Along the years we have organized private expeditions in DRC, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Namibia from 10 days to 40 days overland. We’ve led expeditions along the Congo River and several times we had to transport our cars using rafts made by the locals in a matter of hours.
In order to take it up a notch, we have decided it was finally time to leave our day jobs behind and establish a tour operator company in Uganda, with focus on the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. In these primeval forest habitats lives half of the global population of this endangered species. After proper due diligence, explorations and research, we have founded Ishango Expeditions in July of 2019 aiming to provide to others life changing experiences while doing what we love the most.
For more stories, we’re looking forward to having you in one of our expeditions.
